I stumbled upon his blog a couple years ago and was enamoured with his filmmaking sense, story telling intuition and shot composition. There is a plethora of free content on the internet, but nothing came close to the value of one session. He opened not my eyes, but my senses to an entire world of visual intrigue and story development.
Instead of trendy tricks, camera hacks and how to get money fast; Robert pointed me to classic film techniques, shot composition, visual arrangement, controlling your environment and many, many other things that are as old as storytelling itself. Literally shot by shot, second by second he broke down my film; observing light, sound bites, expressions, angles, negative space, shot type, shot quality, titles, fonts, timing, length and more. It was years of experience distilled into two intensive and meticulous hours. What I valued most were the liberties he took to criticize my work, point me to what works best and even show me his own process. An extremely effective tutor whose value exceeds his cost.
